Steal my Halloween content marketing ideas
Did you know that – back in the day – you had to perform a choreographed dance in exchange for a ‘treat’ on Halloween?
Imagine opening up the door to a group of witches, goblins and slightly (okay, very) underdressed Harley Quinn’s performing a dance routine on your doorstep.
That is definitely one old-timey tradition that I would love to see reinstated.
So, I’ll make you a deal:
If you bring back the Halloween boogie, I will let you steal four of my Halloween-inspired content marketing ideas for your business.
But wait, why bother theming your content for Halloween?
To answer this question, I need to give you a quick low-down on the two types of content.
Timeless (also called evergreen) content: The kind of content that is relevant and valuable all year around.
For example, the blog I posted last week on ‘Three things my copywriting clients did to get to six-figures’ was timeless content.
P.S. If you missed this one, don’t worry you can read it on the blog here.
Timely content: The kind of content that reflects the present moment in time. It’s seasonal and often responds to current events.
For example, this blog is timely content because in two week’s time when October 31st is done and dusted, nobody is going to care about content marketing ideas for Halloween.
In my opinion, both types of content are valuable. One isn’t better than the other. And I always recommend using a variety of content styles and types as part of your marketing strategy.
But timely content can help you:
Attract your target market’s interest.
Reach new people.
Increase engagement on your social media.
Piggyback on trending topics.
Redirect audience to your evergreen content (and increase time on site, repeat visits and even conversions).
Thinking you’d like a timely piece of content to leverage the Halloween buzz?
Which brings us back to our trade:
One Halloween boogie (even if it’s just for your neighbour or, worst-case scenario, your family/room-mate) in return for four fun Halloween content marketing ideas.
Ready to seal the deal?
Okay, virtual pinky-promise comin’ your way.
And now it’s time to deliver the goods:
Four content marketing ideas for Halloween
Idea 01 / Create a Halloween themed infographic
So here’s a fun (and slightly scary) fact: Research conducted by Microsoft revealed that humans have an average attention span of eight seconds, while goldfish have an average attention span of 12 seconds.
Which means your content has to connect and convert quickly.
By using visuals, infographics are able to communicate ideas quickly and engagingly.
And a Halloween themed infographic? Um. Fun.
P.S. You can see an example of visual content in action on my Web Copy page.
Idea 02 / Build a Halloween themed quiz
“Interactive content, such as apps, assessments, calculators, configurators and quizzes, generate conversions moderately or very well 70% of the time, compared to just 36% for passive content.” – Ion Interactive
Three quick truths for you:
There’s a LOT of content available online.
To stand out, you need to be original and creative.
People LOVE learning about themselves.
Which means one thing:
Quizzes and interactive content are brilliant ways to connect with your audience.
Not only will it achieve your regular content goals (like expanding your reach and engagement) but it will also make your business and brand more memorable.
P.S. Have you taken my ‘Right Writer’ quiz yet? It’s an awesome example of how you can use interactive content and quizzes to connect with your audience. Try it here.
Idea 03 / Give your social media a spooky makeover
One of the awesome things about social media is that it’s so easy to create and implement a real-time targeted marketing campaign.
Trendy, on point posts will help you leverage timely digital content to your advantage.
All you need is some creative content (cue the Halloween themed posts) and some eye-catching visuals (say hello to spooky pics) and you’re set!
Oh, and don’t forget that you can change your profile pic and FB header to theme it for Halloween too!
Idea 04 / Write a horror story
This is something I’m pretty passionate about (so apologies if I harp on about it at times), but every single piece of content you create should be a story.
Stories are contagious. They’re meaningful. They’re memorable.
A story is way, way more engaging than just a regular ol’ blog post or newsletter. And it’s a been-around-since-the-dawn-of-humankind proven way to connect with your audience.
Which means that for your timely content you should be focused on using your events/themes to your advantage.
For Halloween, why not write your customer’s a horror story?
For example, later this week I’m writing a blog titled: ‘13 things murdering your conversions’.
Normally the post title would be something like ’13 things that influence your conversions’, but because it’s Halloween, I’m getting a little stabby and popping the word ‘murder’ in there.
You feel me?
And there you have it: four content Halloween themed marketing ideas just for you!
